"History Collides with Family and the Supernatural in Jamaican-Inspired Thriller" - BookTrib
Some stories hook you with a single high‑octane scene; others sneak up on you, weaving a spell page by page until you suddenly realize it’s well past midnight and you’re still reading.
Gary R. Hamilton’s Daydreamers belongs in the second camp, and the spell it casts is steeped in the music, food and folklore of a fictional Caribbean island that feels uncannily real. Part coming‑of‑age tale, part political thriller, part family saga with a whisper of the supernatural, this wide‑ranging novel refuses to be boxed into one genre — and that, oddly enough, is its greatest charm.

BookLife reviews Daydreamers
Hamilton (The Fixer) spins a multigenerational political crime thriller with paranormal aspects set on the fictional Caribbean island of Acia Maj. This, of course, is an acronym for Jamaica, whose 1976 elections are at the center of this genre-crossing novel. Hamilton blends explorations of the island’s culture and history of colonial oppression and political manipulation with both thriller action and detailed accounts of the family life of high schooler Sean and his grandfather, David Kennington, a reporter who writes an explosive story about the CIA bringing guns into the country.
Takeaway: Personal, high-stakes novel of a corrupt Caribbean election and standing up for truth.
Comparable Titles: Alejandro Puyana’s Freedom Is a Feast, Nicole Y. Dennis-Benn’s Here Comes the Sun.

BookLife reviews The Fixer
Hamilton’s breakneck international thriller debut sweeps readers into the dark and violent world of diamond smuggling. The story breaks with shadowy figures from the United States and Africa locked in a standoff for the biggest cut of the action, until one of their diamond-smuggling planes crashes into the Blue Mountains of Jamaica during a hurricane. To recover the goods locked in a safe on board, a team of smugglers enlist the help of naïve, 18-year-old Janet Martin to carry their cryptographic keys through Miami’s airport security, en route to a family holiday in Jamaica. When Janet turns up missing, her parents recruit Kenneth Johnson, aka “The Fixer,” to find her.
Takeaway: Breakneck thriller with high-octane action and strong male lead.
Comparable Titles: Clive Cussler; Brad Taylor.
